Forecast Discussion

After a few scattered showers yesterday, the low-pressure system will move northeast as the cold front moves through early this morning. Winds will shift to a more northerly direction as cooler air settles in behind the front. An upper-level ridge will begin to build high-pressure at the surface as clouds linger Saturday morning with a few isolated lingering showers possible early before rapidly clearing in the afternoon and evening. However, due to the exiting cyclone and increase in pressure, gusty winds up to 20 mph are possible during the day Saturday. Winds will calm down once a strong high-pressure system will remain stationary over the Ohio Valley providing clear skies through Monday with high temperatures rapidly warming from the upper-60s to near 80 degrees. It isn’t until Tuesday where clouds begin to start increasing as another low-pressure system moves into the area northeast from the northern central Plains.

A warm front will lift through the region Tuesday morning aiding in a hot and humid airmass that will settle in through the warm sector. Strong southwesterly flow will settle in aiding in warm, moist air being transported northward into Ohio with dewpoints at the surface possibly reaching the mid to upper-60s providing a sticky, unstable atmosphere. High temperatures can reach into the mid-80s with it possibly feeling like the upper-80s. As of right now, there seems to be some instability in the atmosphere and low-level moisture aiding in possible showers and thunderstorms, which some could be severe. As of right now, there is a 15-29% chance of storms becoming severe with the main threats being damaging wind gusts, quarter sized hail, and an a couple of tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

The cold front will move through late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as a few lingering showers and thunderstorms are possible Wednesday morning. Clouds will stick around during the day with peaks of sun before a secondary low-pressure system begins to develop and heads toward the Ohio Valley with another possible round of showers and storms on Thursday. As always, stay tuned for updates here at The Scalia Laboratory for Atmospheric Analysis for any alerts from the NWS as we continue to monitor Tuesday with any further updates.
