A consistent troughing pattern is expected through much of the forecast. Starting today, clouds will stick around due to an occluded mid-latitude cyclone located over Canada to the north. The Ohio Valley will stick in the warm sector creating unseasonably high temperatures in the low-60s. The cold front will stall with the system with a chance for an isolated shower or two today. However, another low-pressure system will move northeast from the southern states. Due to the proximity of the low and its strengthening pressure, it is expected to be gusty on Sunday with possible gusts up to 35 mph. A Hazardous Weather Outlook from the NWS has been issued with hazards including downed powerlines and trees, and wet soils with these gusty winds and potential for storms. High temperatures will stick to the mid-60s as the warm fronts lifts creating a warm, moist atmosphere for rain potential Saturday night into Sunday morning. Rain can be heavy at times with this system and potentially soaking rain with a potential for a rumble of thunder.

Scattered showers can linger Sunday afternoon and evening once the cold front moves through. A brief high-pressure is expected Monday with a break in the rain and highs dropping to the low-50s. However, another low-pressure system will move through Tuesday bringing another round of rain showers before clearing out early Wednesday morning. However, due to troughing, colder air will settle for the new year with highs dropping to the upper-30s and clouds sticking around. A rain-snow mix is possible Wednesday, but future forecasts will confirm it.
