Currently, an upper-level closed-off low is sitting over the region. Late Monday night into Sunday, a very strong shortwave trough is going to move into the state. This system is anticipated to bring very strong and severe thunderstorms to the state, reaching the Athens area late Sunday night into very early Monday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Athens County, detailing that tomorrow night, a cold front will bring strong and severe thunderstorms to the area, which could pose a threat for damaging winds and localized flooding. There is currently also a small hail threat as per the Storm Prediction Center. We are under a marginal risk for severe weather at this time with severe winds and hail being possible.

As this system begins to move out of the region, clouds will stick around, contributing to more muggy but also cooler air. This pattern is expected to stick around for a few days until a broad high pressure system moves in behind the low. This is expected to bring warmer conditions to the region, but stay tuned for later forecasts and updates.
