Forecast Discussion
Currently, a surface high pressure system is influencing the weather, keeping us dry and warm. A low pressure system off to our east is forecast to bring in some moisture, and daytime heating will contribute to some instability, allowing for the chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Some of these storms could be strong and produce large hail and damaging wind gusts as outlined in the National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook for Athens county.
After this disturbance moves out of our region, surface high pressure will take control again, leading to much of the same. Conditions look to remain warm and dry as this pattern persists. Looking ahead in the extended forecast, a weak cold front is expected to move through early next week, leading to a drop in the temperature, but it is not forecast to bring any precipitation at this time.
