With calm upper levels for the time being, today’s weather is expected to be rather pleasant. Slight upper-level ridging will accompany a lull in the upper-level jet that brought yesterday’s severe weather event. However, tomorrow, a strong trough is expected to move through the region. This trough is expected to strengthen as the surface low-pressure system associated with it forms an occlusion. This will mean the threat of severe weather returns on Monday, bringing mainly the risk of strong, damaging wind gusts and possibly large hail. There is a small chance for some tornadic development, as indicated by the latest mid-range model guidance, with some concerning wind shear. Due to these factors, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk for severe weather on Monday. As seen with yesterday’s severe weather event, it is imperative that you are prepared for a Tornado Warning from the National Weather Service and take quick action should one be issued.

With upper-level ridging taking place on the backside of this trough, we can expect more pleasant conditions to follow through at least Thursday, with highs climbing into the low to mid-80s by Thursday and mostly clear skies!
