Merry Christmas Eve! I sure hope you weren’t expecting a white Christmas because the chance of that is unfortunately zero this year for Athens and the surrounding areas. An approaching cold front is going to bring chances for rain showers through the rest of this weekend and into the majority of next week. This cold front is rather potent and will drop the daytime high temperatures from the high 50s and low 60s we have seen down into the mid-40s by the later part of this week.

Showers will be more consistent starting Tuesday with the chance for some thunderstorms as well with this frontal passage. The surface low that is driving this cold front is weakening and will stall out over the Midwest by midweek, meaning rain chances will likely stick around as this low spins out as well as precipitation from behind the cold front. With all of the rain over the entire week/weekend, up to an inch of total precipitation is expected in southeast Ohio, but this is thankfully not expected to cause any flooding concerns at this time.
