The Storm Prediction Center has given Athens, OH a Marginal (Threat Level 1/5) for this afternoon. Expect temperatures to rise to the mid 80s today under cloudy skies and breezy southerly winds. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will occur throughout the day, with the highest chance and coverage during the late afternoon. Any thunderstorms that develops, especially during the late afternoon and early evening, will have a Marginal (1/5) chance for damaging winds and hail. Most importantly, however, is the threat for heavy downpours and localized flooding with any strong storm (Hazardous Weather Outlook) The cold front associated with this system will move through late tonight bringing a chance of showers all the way through early Monday morning. While temperatures will still stay mild in the mid-50s overnight, Monday will be noticeably cooler in the low 70s despite mostly sunny skies. Monday night will then be clear with temperatures into the mid-40s.

Expect multiple rounds of isolated pop-up showers and thunderstorms during the afternoons of this week as the high pressure that plagued us with hot and clear weather is now finally out of the picture. But that means that the summer heat + moisture and any rising motion could surprise us with an afternoon shower/thunderstorm.
