Daytime today will certainly another warm day as an area high pressure region over southern Appalachian dominates and brings in southerly flow. By late Sunday evening into overnight hours, look for clouds to increase as strong cold front associated with mid-level trough will slowly approaches Athens. There is small chance of some rain showers by Monday morning, but better chances showers and thunderstorm as we head into late afternoon-evening hours of Monday into early parts of Tuesday. Given how there is strong cold front lining up with 40 knots winds aloft out ahead of it, dynamics are favorable enough for Storm Prediction Center to issue marginal risk for isolated potential damaging wind gusts to occur in Athens. Our best chances of seeing strongest storms will during evening hours. Cold front is expected pass through Athens by late Monday evening and will bring in sharply cooler temperatures for Athens. Things will dry out a little by early Tuesday morning before another round of showers look to impact us by late morning hours into early evening hours of Tuesday. High temperatures on Tuesday through Thursday are only expected to be in the low-mid 60’s with morning lows in upper 30’s-low 40’s for middle parts of upcoming week.
