With an approaching cold front today, we can expect mainly nice weather ahead of it, with some breezy conditions enhanced by upper-level winds from the trough that is passing over our region. Clouds will increase in the evening hours as this cold front approaches, bringing a chance for some isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Due to this, Athens and surrounding areas further northwest have been placed under a Marginal Risk for severe weather today, with the threat being damaging wind gusts. There is, thankfully, no tornado threat with this setup. Additionally, storms will likely be weaker by the time they reach southeast Ohio tonight due to the diurnal cooling, limiting the instability available to thunderstorms. After this cold front passes tonight, we can expect a nice drop in temperatures to give us almost more fall-like weather with breezy conditions again Friday, but it is just false hope.

Friday and heading into the weekend, a strong high-pressure system will settle in with upper-level ridging, bringing a quick rise in temperatures as well as dry conditions for the region all the way into early next week. Temperatures are expected to hit the 90s by early next week, so do not get your hopes up just yet for any relief from hot conditions. Make sure to get out and take advantage the nice weather tomorrow and over the weekend!
