Technical Forecast Discussion

Short-term Forecast (Thursday 08/01/2024 through Saturday 08/03/2024):

The region is under a marginal risk for severe weather Thursday into Friday by the Storm Prediction Center. Regions of CAPE between 1500-2500 J/Kg are showing on models for Friday but shear will be minimal making it difficult for any of these systems to truly pop-off. Even so, there is still the chance for some of these systems to bring decent wind and potentially even some small hail. Largest risk at this time is localized flash flooding due to the heavy downpours that will be associated with these storms and the persistency of rain across the forecast. If you are in a flood-prone area, it is recommend to take necessary precautions to limit the damage any potential flooding could cause. Thursday will be the hottest day with heat indicies possibly stretching into the triple-digits. This in combination with the increased humidity could be unsafe to those sensitive to heat or without AC. Be sure to stay hydrated and check on loved ones during this time to ensure everyone is staying safe and healthy! Thankfully, a cold front will pass through just before the weekend bringing our temperatures back into the comfortable, but still warm, low to mid 80s.

Long-term Forecast (Sunday 08/04/2024 through Wednesday 08/07/2024):

Following the passage of the cold front Saturday, temperatures will drop back into the low to mid 80s. A break in the rain will also occur on Sunday as high pressure begins to re-enter the region! Temperatures will begin to climb following Sunday stretching back into the low 90s. This high pressure should keep us dry for a bit until a stationary boundary may reintroduce the chance for diurnal convection and precipitation around Wednesday.
