A maturing midlatitude cyclone is making its way through the midwestern region of the US right now, and as it pushes farther east rain showers ahead of the warm front will move in this afternoon, along with windy conditions associated with the tightening pressure gradient. This system will move somewhat northeast, up into the Great Lakes region, and after the passage of the cold front sometime tonight into early tomorrow morning, temperatures will drop, more noticeably in the daytime high.

Another surface low pressure that is expected to form tonight into Friday on a somewhat stationary boundary is expected to bring more precipitation to the area, in the form of snow! Some flurries and showers are possible tomorrow, but mainly snow will move in tomorrow night as temperatures are going to be below freezing. Accumulations are not expected to be impactful though, not exceeding much more than an inch. Models are still somewhat long range, so expected accumulations will likely change and be somewhat lower.

After these two systems pass through, strong upper-level ridging will support high pressure at the surface and finally some drier weather will prevail. This will also mean some warmer weather in the long term forecast, as highs on Saturday aren’t expected over the mid-30s. Thankfully, the highs are expected back up to the low 50s by Monday starting off next week!
