Forecast Discussion

The National Weather Service has issued Athens and the surrounding areas a heat advisory from 11 am this morning until 8 pm tonight. Please be cautious today with the heat as the heat index could reach near 104 degrees, especially as high humidity could worsen symptoms to heat illnesses.

The large ridge aloft that has kept temperatures at or above 90 the past week is expected to continue today. High-pressure at the surface will keep conditions clear and stable, although a minor trough will push through Friday morning, bringing us the possibility for some rain showers. A stationary front will cut over Ohio Saturday, continuing the possibility for showers and maybe even a rumble of thunder. Unfortunately, moving into Sunday and into the work week next week, the ridge keeping our temperatures hot will continue. Likely stable conditions will follow Sunday as high-pressure fills into the region once again, bringing sunny skies back on Monday.
