Unsettled weather with the potential for isolated severe storms is expected to close out the work week. Shortwave energy will inhabit an upper level ridge, bringing chances for showers and thunderstorms tonight through much of the extended period. The southeast Ohio region is currently under both a marginal and slight risk for severe weather, with more south/south central counties under the slight risk. The main threats will be damaging winds, hail, and heavy downpours. Localized flooding may be a concern in some spots with the amount of rain expected over the next several days. In addition to this, air quality has taken a turn for the worst due to the Canadian wildfires continuing to blaze. Due to this, an Air Quality Alert is in effect until midnight tonight. Widespread haze is expected to linger into tomorrow as well, with the Air Quality Index to be in the ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ range.
