Hazardous Weather Outlook

Make sure to get outside and enjoy the sunshine today before the arrival of a messy weekend! A strong developing low pressure system will approach from the west beginning Friday, with a rather tight pressure gradient associated with it. This will cause winds to ramp up in speed from the south, with gusts up to 40mph possible at times on both Friday and Saturday ahead of a cold front. Rain showers will then quickly become widespread across the region by Friday afternoon, with chances for thunderstorms to develop heading into the evening hours. The main threats will be damaging winds and heavy downpours. Given the recent moisture received by last week’s system, localized flooding issues may pose a threat in some flood-prone locations. After the cold front moves through on Saturday, rain chances will gradually diminish across the region, but gusty winds will still stick around throughout the day. Do not be surprised if a wind advisory is issued by the National Weather Service, as these winds will be just as strong, if not stronger, than last week. Winds will finally begin to calm down on Sunday as high pressure brings drier weather to close out the weekend and the start of the new work week. High pressure will additionally bring a warming trend, with highs forecasted to be in the 70s on Monday.
