Technical Forecast Discussion
Short-term Forecast (Thursday 11/28/2024 through Saturday 11/30/2024):
A low-pressure system moving across the Great Lakes will influence weather conditions on Thanksgiving Day. Expect cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and breezy conditions, especially during the morning and early afternoon hours. Morning temperatures will start in the mid-40s, climbing to highs near 50°F. Winds will be out of the southwest at 10-15 mph, with occasional gusts up to 20 mph, adding to the damp and chilly feel. Holiday travelers should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility, particularly in the morning hours. For those traveling north or west, conditions will be more challenging, with heavier rain and gustier winds closer to the center of the low. On Friday, skies will remain mostly cloudy as temperatures warm into the low to mid-50s. While the day will generally be dry, a weak system moving through the region may produce light rain showers during the evening. Rainfall amounts will be light, but slick roads are still a possibility for evening commuters and travelers. By Saturday, a cold front will cross the region in the early morning hours, bringing isolated rain showers before ushering in cooler, drier air. Clouds will linger through the morning but gradually clear by the afternoon, with highs reaching the upper 40s. Winds will shift to the northwest behind the front, bringing a more seasonable chill to the air by evening.
Long-term Forecast (Sunday 12/01/2024 through Wednesday 12/04/2024):
High pressure will settle into the region on Sunday, providing a period of calm and sunny weather. Expect mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid-40s, with light winds and cool but pleasant conditions. Sunday will be an excellent day for any post-holiday travel, with no significant weather concerns expected. On Monday, attention turns to a developing system moving up from the south. While precipitation is expected to remain light, increasing clouds and the potential for isolated showers are possible later in the day. Temperatures will remain near 45-48°F during the afternoon. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring partly cloudy skies with a return to seasonable conditions. Highs will range from the upper 40s to low 50s, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-30s. A more stable weather pattern is expected to persist through midweek, with minimal impacts to travel or daily activities.
