Technical Forecast Discussion
Short-term Forecast (Thursday 09/05/2024 through Saturday 09/07/2024):
High pressure has been keeping the region fairly dry, temperate and clear over the last couple of days. Similar conditions are expected today as high pressure remains. Tomorrow (Friday), this high will begin its journey to the east providing a warming trend throughout the day and a daytime high peaking around 90 degrees. Following the progression of this high out of the region, a low pressure system will be moving in to the north and will provide a sweeping cold front Friday night. Thankfully, this means those warm conditions will only be around for a day as this front will bring our temperatures back down to the comfortable mid 70s. This front will bring some rain showers and the chance of some thunderstorms beginning overnight Friday into Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, with the state of our current drought conditions, this precipitation is not anticipated to make much a difference due to the shortage of precipitation year-to-date. It will unfortunately be a quick passing frontal system with little support in mending our lack of rainfall. Following the passage of this front, high pressure will rebuild into the region providing drier conditions and clearing of skies into Saturday evening.
Long-term Forecast (Sunday 09/08/2024 through Wednesday 09/11/2024):
As high pressure continues to rebuild and zonal flow begins aloft, the forecast will be fairly calm and uneventful. Daytime high temperatures will begin to see a warming trend during the start of the work week as upper-level ridging begins to build in with the surface high pressure. Clear and windless conditions overnight following temperate daytime highs will result in some chilly overnight lows potentially dropping into the upper 40s. Be sure to have a jacket if your morning commute is just before or during sunrise!
