Forecast Discussion

Lingering low level moisture combined with recent rainfall has led to areas of dense fog, and will gradually dissipate later this morning. Today will be a mostly cool and drier day than yesterday as surface high pressure builds into the Mississippi Valley. Clearing skies, light winds, and lows in the 50s should be enough to produce more valley fog tonight across much of the area. The surface high pressure will shift east on Saturday, resulting in a south/southwest flow of warmer air to enter the region. This will result in dry weather along with a warming trend. Temperatures and dew points will be closer to summer averages rather than September averages. Zonal and mid upper level flow north of the area will amplify early next week as a ridge builds along the east coast and a few shortwave troughs intensify as they move across the central U.S. From the combination of the surface high pressure shifting slightly and the approaching shortwave troughs from the west, increased chances for showers and thunderstorms will begin by midweek after a dry start to the week.
