***TORNADO WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL 2:00 AM EDT***

A TORNADO WATCH is in effect with primary hazards being a FEW TORNADOES LIKELY, a couple strong tornadoes possible, damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, and hail as large as 1.5″ in diameter. Remember, a WATCH  means conditions are favorable for storms that can produce tornadoes. Stay tuned to NWS Charleston, Scalia Lab Facebook and Twitter for the latest information regarding severe weather.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–A very potent severe weather threat has set up for much of Central Ohio today. A strong low-pressure system that has started to occluded will drive a cold front through the region today in the wake of strong warm and and moisture being pushed up from the preceding warm front. Due to large amounts of instability present as well as wind shear, a strong threat for widespread tornadoes is on the table today, along with the other hazards of large severe hail (2″+ in diameter) and damaging wind gusts of 75 mph+.

PLEASE review your tornado safety plan as well as your plan for other severe weather hazards. Have WEA alerts turned on for all of your devices (and keep them charged), have multiples ways like a weather radio to receive warnings, and STAY WEATHER AWARE TODAY. Additionally, flooding is also going to be a threat with widespread rainfall over the last couple of days that is expected to continue through Friday.

As this system pushes off to our east tomorrow night, we expect some chances for mixed precipitation as the low dips down to around freezing, but no significant travel impacts are expected as temperatures will still be above freezing.
