Today will be quite uncomfortable with high temperatures reaching the mid-90s and dewpoints reaching into the mid to upper-70s in the afternoon. As indicated by the Hazardous Outlook by the NWS, heat indices can reach the upper-90s to low 100s due to a very moist, unstable airmass if thunderstorms do not arise. Due to daytime heating and moisture and an approaching low-pressure system, there is a chance for showers and thunderstorms. Provided with a deep upper-level trough and instability, some of these storms can become severe. The SPC has issued a slight risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather with the main threats being damaging wind gusts and a potential for flash flooding.

A cold front will move through Wednesday, which will continue chances for showers and thunderstorms, but if storms do arise, they will not be severe like today. There is a chance for excessive rainfall these next two days as these storms pass, so make sure to turn around if there are any flooded roadways. Once the system moves out, high-pressure will settle in the area and keep temperatures on the cooler side with highs in the low to mid-80s and drier conditions.
