Hazardous Weather Outlook

A cloudy week is in store for Athens. Upper-level troughing is associated with a relatively weak low-pressure system making its way through the area and will bring along with it clouds, rain, and a chance for some snow/mixed precipitation. For the most part, any snow that does fall is not very likely to stick however, be cautious when traveling under these conditions. The National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook for the week (link above) states, “A brief, light wintry mix including snow, sleet or freezing rain is possible Tuesday morning. Even trace accumulations could create slick spots on roads and sidewalks.” Temperatures are going to be below freezing overnight into the early morning, so it is very possible snow/ice could accumulate on roadways. Otherwise daily highs are expected to be in the mid to high 30s and lows in the low 30s and mid-20s through the week.  Toward the end of the week into the weekend, clouds stick around and temperatures drop some more.
