Upper-level disturbance with the jet stream is bringing a shortwave trough in the lower levels to the region. This trough provides enough lift for rain today through the short-term forecast, as well as an incoming surface low that is going to lift a warm front through the region sometime later tomorrow. Temperatures are anticipated to reach the high 50s by tomorrow afternoon. Warmer temperatures will be a relief from cold, but with melting snowfall and excessive rainfall, there is a flooding threat present with this system. New rainfall amounts are expected to be around 0.65″ – 0.75″ and up to 0.9″ by Thursday night prompting a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall today into Friday morning from the WPC. The National Weather Service has also issued a Flood Watch through late tomorrow night, detailing the rainfall will cause concern for rising rivers, creeks, streams, and flooding in other low-lying areas. Remember if driving, turn around, don’t drown!

Friday, surface high pressure is going to move in behind the low-pressure system which will bring a weak cold front and provide relief from some precipitation with possibly some slight clearing in the skies. Starting the weekend, a moist surface low from the Gulf of Mexico is expected to bring in more rainfall to the region through the rest of the weekend.
