Forecast Discussion

Today we are under a marginal risk for thunderstorms as issued by the Storm Prediction Center. This is due to a low-pressure system that has entered the region along with a cold front that is expected to pass over Athens during the overnight hours. This cold front will provide some lift that may produce rain showers as it passes. Additionally, it will provide some much-needed relief from the extremely warm temperatures that we have been experiencing these last few days.

Today, temperatures will remain in the 90s, but there will be cloudy skies as the low-pressure system moves overhead. Tonight through the morning hours of tomorrow showers will be expected, as the cold front passes. The upper-level trough will persist above us for the coming days and so will cloudy skies. Luckily though, as I mentioned before temperatures will fall back into what we expect for September, back into the upper 70s and low 80s, giving more of a fall feel.
