Forecast Discussion

Two lines of precip will be moving through the Athens area tonight as a cold front approaches. The first round is currently pushing in, with heavy rain embedded in thunderstorms as the primary concern. This line will make its way through over the next several hours before storms ahead of the cold front move in overnight. Storms ahead of the front may be severe, with high wind damage being the main threat. Isolated hail and spin-ups may also be possible. This line will pass through toward morning with rain showers trailing behind it. Showers will persist into tomorrow morning before we start to clear for the weekend due to high pressure building back in. Temperatures behind this front will drop into the 60s with lows in the 40s. Sunny conditions are expected to carry into early next week as we start to warm back into the lower 70s.
