Forecast Discussion

Scattered storms are currently in the area, bringing with it heavy rainfall, wind gusts and small hail. As issued by the SPC, a slight risk of storms lingers in the area, for the potential for mainly wind damage, but a chance of hail as well. Heating and humidity from the day created unstable conditions in the environment, coupled with an approaching cold front from the northwest, and these storms were able to fire up in the region. Expect scattered storms to continue throughout the evening, and be alert should any of these turn severe. Additionally, flash flooding remains a threat as these storms pass through, as torrential rainfall can quickly create road and small stream hazards. Continue to be vigilant as the evening progresses, but the biggest threats for severe weather will pass before midnight. Temperatures will drop to 62 degrees, but skies will remain cloudy overnight, with winds 0-5 mph from the south-southwest.

Tomorrow, clouds will likely linger throughout the day, breaking in the late afternoon and early evening. Temperatures will reach a high 84 degrees, with winds 5-10 mph from the southwest. Lower pressure will linger in the morning, possibly creating a pocket or two of brief showers or a thunderstorm, but pressure will rise later, stabilizing the environment by the evening. Partly cloudy conditions will persist into the evening, as temperatures fall to 63 degrees, and winds calm and variable. Skies will become cloudy again in the morning, partially clearing again in the afternoon, with a slim chance of scattered rain showers in the late evening. Our rainy week doesn’t stop here, unfortunately, as a marginal risk for severe storms returns Thursday with another approaching cold front as a byproduct of a positively titled trough. Afterwards, however, the rest of the week looks to be calmer and nicer, with some scattered clouds and temperatures in the 80s.
