Forecast Discussion

Athens is currently between two systems in the upper levels but is experiencing the outer bands of a surface high pressure which is causing the easterly/southeasterly flow. Dry conditions should be expected tonight and through Tuesday afternoon before the new system arrives Tuesday night. Tuesday night through Friday chances of rain will remain elevated due to a new low-pressure system. Thursday severe thunderstorm chances are also elevated ahead of the warm front with marginal CAPE and bulk shear values. From this system, up to an inch and a half of rain is expected. High pressure will begin to build in Saturday and clear skies. Afternoon temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-to-upper 70s this week.
