Forecast Discussion
An overwhelming surge of heat and humidity will continue to be the story as we head out of Labor Day weekend. A broad region of high pressure and an upper-level ridging pattern dominate much of the Midwest, providing warm, moist air out of the south into the area. Conditions are likely to remain dry for the Athens region on Tuesday and Wednesday, but heat indices during the afternoon hours will likely be reaching the mid to upper 90s. By Wednesday night, an approaching cold front out of the northwest will begin to increase chances for showers and storms to develop. Scattered storms will likely develop on Thursday as the front pushes through by Thursday night. However, the front looks to stall out just south of us on Friday, which could provide isolated storms in parts of SE Ohio.
