Forecast Discussion
Clear skies will be a dominating feature for the forecast and foreseeable future. High-pressure will prevent any clouds to form substantially, allowing dry conditions to inevitably follow as a result. An upper-level ridge, though broad and not directly over Ohio, will encourage warmer temperatures to fill back into the region after the nice, cooler air we’ve had the past week and a half. While temperatures aren’t expected to reach the 90s like they did in August, they will break into the mid-80s for most of the forecast. Despite the sunny skies bringing beautiful, calm weather, this continuous dry spell will not bode well for drought conditions for agriculture. Currently, Athens County is currently “abnormally dry” with a D0 drought intensity rating while parts of southern and eastern Ohio are being impacted by a D1 “moderate drought”. Unfortunately, as dry conditions continue, drought conditions are likely to worsen. Thankfully, we are doing much better than this time last year in relation to Athens’ historic drought, and hopefully we won’t get to that point again.
