Shower chances will increase heading into the overnight hours tonight as an upper level trough continues to deepen over the Great Lakes, sending a secondary cold front through the region on Sunday. After the passage of the cold front, winds will be rather gusty as a pressure gradient tightens, with gusts up to 40 mph possible. By Monday, the upper level trough and associated surface low pressure will become vertically stacked, producing more rounds of showers and isolated thunderstorms to start out the new work week. In addition, temperatures will be much cooler and winds will still continue to be strong through Monday.
This dynamic system will push off to the east by mid week, clearing conditions out briefly before a shortwave trough impacts the area late week, bringing chances for showers. However, upper level ridging and surface high pressure will build into the area just in time for graduation weekend!
