Forecast Discussion

Tonight, some clouds will clear partially as temperatures fall to a low of 66 degrees overnight. Winds will be from the east at 5-10 mph. By the morning, clouds will have returned as a surface low pressure begins to influence the weather for our region Sunday. This low will be stationed over Indiana, and will spur a stationary front to become a warm front as it moves northeast. Thus, a chance for some showers and scattered thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon. A marginal risk of severe weather has been issued by the SPC, detailing the possibility for potential wind and hail damage. These storms will be relatively sporadic and localized, however, so impacts may vary depending on location. The high Sunday will be 87 degrees, with winds shifting to be from the south at 10-15 mph. The chances for storms tapers off in the evening, though mostly cloudy skies will persist, with temperature dropping to 67 degrees. The threat of storms, however, does not end here.

Monday morning, storms return following a cold front from a second surface low moving in from behind Sunday’s low. The cold front will see somewhat scattered storms move through the region in the morning hours, potentially between 7 am and 10 am. The SPC places southeastern Ohio under a slight risk of severe weather on Monday as well. Instability will grow during the day with a high of 84 degrees and dewpoints near 70, and the cold core of the low will continue to force the development of thunderstorms in multiple rounds. After the morning storms, another round is possible in the early afternoon, and once more in the early evening. With a more linear pattern with the potential for supercells, a few tornadoes are possible alongside threats of wind and hail damage. More details regarding the impacts posed from these storms will develop as Monday approaches.
