Forecast Discussion
A strong winter storm could possibly impact the southeastern Ohio region from Sunday into Monday. Tonight, a few flurries will move out of the area early, and temperatures will drop to around 29 degrees under cloudy skies. By tomorrow, these clouds will clear up by the afternoon, which will lead to mostly clear skies overnight, with a few more clouds entering in the morning of Sunday as a low pressure system approaches.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Sunday morning into Monday evening. This low pressure system will push heavy snow and a possible mix of sleet and freezing rain into the region from Sunday evening overnight into Monday morning, with the heaviest snowfall occurring around midnight, and the mix possibly occurring in the early morning hours. Multiple inches of snowfall are possible, and higher amounts could be found in higher elevations. Strong uncertainty remains in the forecast as to where the mixed precipitation could occur, so stay tuned for further updates. Driving during this time should be avoided at all costs, and backroads by Monday morning could be virtually impassible. Be sure to stock up on non-perishable foods, batteries, water, and ways to keep yourself warm, and consult sites such as weather.gov for more information.
A few snow showers could be possible into Monday evening, and mostly cloudy weather will continue to linger in the area through the new week as temperatures remain in the mid 20s as a deep trough takes hold. During this time of active weather, continue to check for updates from your local forecasting office.
