An extreme heat warning will be in effect starting tomorrow at noon and lasting through Wednesday at 8 PM. Tune in to Scalia Lab and the National Weather Service for any updates as we move through the week.

High pressure has moved into the area creating a heat dome over the Ohio Valley. This heat dome is the reason we are under an extreme heat warning through most of this week. There will be multiple days where the heat index reaches above 100 degrees F. Please try to limit time spent outside and stay in the shade as much as possible. Young children, the elderly, and those with certain disabilities or taking medicines that make them less tolerant to the heat should take extra precaution to stay out of the heat, however, this heat will be dangerous to all if proper precautions are not taken. Extreme heat is the deadliest type of severe weather, so we urge people to please take this situation seriously. Take frequent breaks in a cool place, drink plenty of water, and watch for signs of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, nausea, and profuse sweating. In case of heat stroke (confusion, dizziness, and flushed skin with no sweating), call 911. Looking ahead, a small bit of relief from the heat arrives in the chance for some showers and thunderstorms, however, temperatures will still be high so caution should still be taken.
