Technical Forecast Discussion

Short-Term Forecast (Sunday 10/12/2025 through Tuesday 10/14/2025)

A broad ridge will develop over the region over the next couple of days, and alongside high-pressure at the surface, clouds are expected to be minimal. 500 mb heights are expected to remain steady and trend slightly upwards during this time. Temperatures aloft and near the surface will remain relatively warm, keeping these cooler temperatures at the surface fairly consistent. Throughout majority of the atmosphere, dry air will dominate the region, especially in the upper-levels near 200 mb, leaving much of the moisture near the surface. Minimal activity is expected during this time as a stable airmass continues to remain over Ohio for the remainder of the forecast.

Long-Term Forecast (Wednesday 10/15/2025 through Saturday 10/18/2025)

A cold front will pass over Ohio early Wednesday morning, dropping surface temperatures down into the upper-to-mid 60s through the end of the week. Like the short-term, the long-term will be defined by a dominating dry airmass through much of Saturday. Though, an additional cold front associated with a mid-latitude cyclone will travel eastward during this time with the chance to bring showers ahead of it. Clouds are likely to build Friday as moisture is transported over to Ohio, but may decrease throughout the day Saturday, however. 500 mb height tendencies will continue to remain stable Wednesday and Thursday but may dip slightly downward Friday and Saturday in response to the approaching cold front. Temperatures aloft will likely stay slightly warmer like the short-term, but may see some minor cold air advection Saturday, but primarily beyond this forecast on Sunday. For the most part, activity will continue to remain low and stable with mostly clear skies, though some clouds could sneak in for a brief moment during this time.
