Forecast Discussion
The NWS Storm Prediction Center has Athens county in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather today and tomorrow. Severe winds are the major risk as thunderstorms are likely in the evening to early morning Monday.
Today is cloudier than it has been in the past couple of days. A warm front is supporting the thunderstorms moving into our region. Winds from the south are helping the thunderstorm chances this evening and as we enter the rest of the week. The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has Athens, OH in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4) on the Excessive Rain Outlook for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week for possible isolated flash floods. A cold front will keep pushing the rainstorms from Tuesday before a low pressure system continues the work of feeding the rainstorms. Temperatures will be lower this week than last, in the mid-70s range.
This rain may decrease Athens county’s D1 Moderate Drought to a D0.
