Technical Forecast Discussion
Short-term Forecast (Sunday 09/29/2024 through Tuesday 10/01/2024)
The remnants of Helene in the form of a cut-off low has been stationary near Nashville and brining us the persistent cloudy skies and fleeting chances of rain. These conditions will persist into Monday evening as she completes her progression out of the region to the east into the Atlantic. A cold front will then sweep through Tuesday brining an additional opportunity for instability and precipitation and further continuing the cloud coverage. Thankfully, any additional precipitation should be light and isolated in nature and the cloudy skies will prevent the fueling of any thunderstorm formation or activity. This cold front Tuesday will bring cooler temperatures into the low 70s and a chilly overnight low in the low 50s.
Long-term Forecast (Wednesday 10/02/2024 through Saturday 10/05/2024):
Thankfully, conditions are looking up in the long-term forecast! Now that Helene has finally progressed eastward out of the region, skies will finally begin to clear. High pressure will build into the region following the frontal passage Tuesday. Behind this cold front is a much drier air mass that we will welcome on Wednesday into much of the rest of the week. The second half of the week will be far sunnier than we have seen recently and much drier! A warming trend will occur as a result of the sunshine with high temperatures breaking into the upper 70s Thursday and Friday. A cold frontal passage Friday evening will restrict any further warming brining temperatures back down for the weekend.
