The start to an active and rainy weather pattern begins tonight as a warm front and attending low pressure system lifts through the region. Ahead of the warm front will be a prolonged period of rain that begins late tonight around 2 AM and will last until around 8 AM Friday morning. With the warm front moving through, temperatures will stay mild near 50 F tonight. After the rain ends Friday morning, there will be a brief lull in rain, and perhaps a few peeks of sunshine during the late morning and early afternoon hours, allowing temperatures to reach near 70 F. However, the low-pressure system is forecast to stall in central Ohio during the day and a band of thunderstorms is possible during the mid afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal risk for Athens, OH highlighting a slight chance for damaging winds and/or small hail with any of these storms. After the round of thunderstorms exits the area, some lingering isolated showers associated with the stalled low pressure are possible Friday night. Winds will stay moderate and temperatures will stay around 50 F Friday night. The low-pressure system will finally lift northward during the day Saturday bringing partly cloudy skies for most of the day with temperatures near 70 F. However, another system is forecast to move into the area late in the day Saturday bringing scattered showers in the evening and overnight hours.

The extended forecast continues to bring rain and mild temperatures to the region as system after system moves through Ohio. Sunday through Tuesday brings at least a 50% chance of rain each day and highs in the low 60s on Sunday and in the mid 50s on Monday and Tuesday. There’s no end in sight as of yet, so be prepared for a dreary week.
