Technical Forecast Discussion

Short Term (Thursday 4-6-23 through Sunday 4-9-23)

Showers have been off and on Thursday across the southeast Ohio region as a very slow moving cold front has finally passed through, which was associated with a strong low pressure system that brought severe weather across the country Tuesday and Wednesday. This has advected a much colder air mass in, with temperatures only reaching into the 50s during the afternoon hours. Friday will be slightly warmer as upper level ridging and surface high pressure begin to build in, providing partial clearing and drier conditions. Since drier air is advecting in, relative humidity values may drop into the 20s with winds gusting to around 15 mph; however, given the recent rainfall, fire danger should not be a concern. Conditions look likely to remain dry for the short term with upper level ridging and surface high pressure continuing to build in. Latest models are showing a low pressure system originating from the southeastern U.S. pushing east over the weekend, but it looks like this system will be too far south to affect the region. If anything, clouds from the system will be present, but any precipitation is unlikely. Clouds will clear out completely by Sunday after the southeast low pressure system moves off into the Atlantic ocean, along with temperatures rebounding into the mid 60s once again.

Long Term (Monday 4-10-23 through Thursday 4-13-13)

The long term forecast looks rather uneventful as ridging and high pressure continue to take hold. This will bring sunny skies during the day, and mostly clear skies at night, along with temperatures slightly warming up each day. By Thursday, the NBM is showing temperatures back in the 80s! A low pressure developing in the deep south is showing up on some models, but at this time, it looks like this system will not impact the region with the ridging pattern remaining strong. Since this is still a week out, models will likely change and this system could in fact end up impacting us around Thursday next week. Overall though, the long term should be rather quiet; for those who love to be outdoors, this will be the perfect weather for you!
