Forecast Discussion

The shortwave trough that brought us rain is now moving east bringing back more zonal flow. On Friday, a weak shortwave ridge will move over the Ohio Valley with an associated high-pressure bringing drier conditions, but for only a brief period. Another shortwave trough associated with a low-pressure system moving to the north, will bring chances for showers and thunderstorms back on Saturday with some storms turning severe. The SPC has issued a slight risk for severe weather on day 3 where the main threats can be damaging wind gusts and large hail. Drier conditions return on Sunday with some subsidence, but storms will return on Monday.

On Monday, a deep trough will move through with an upper-level closed low. This means that there is enough upper-level divergence to provide a lifting mechanism. There looks to be enough instability to support thunderstorms as the low-pressure matures to the north and occludes. The severity is unknown at this point in time but stay tuned as the day gets closer.
