Forecast Discussion

The SPC does have Athens in a Marginal Risk for severe weather tonight.  The main threats are damaging winds, large hail, and localized heavy rainfall. This is all due to the low-pressure system located to the north over The Great Lakes. On Friday, the rain chances will continue with chances of isolated showers and storms in the afternoon. A cold front will be moving through Friday evening which will aid in relief to this heat wave. However, the NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook which can see heat indices in the 100s again on Friday.

On Saturday, a very weak trough will move through which will bring a chance for rain showers in the morning but move out by the afternoon and become partly cloudy. There is a return to zonal flow for the rest of the weekend, so not much will happen in terms of weather. There is a deep trough that will move through on Tuesday but is located to the north and most rain chances will be north or east of Athens that day.
