Tonight will feature heavy rain and a slight chance for a few rumbles of thunder as a cold front makes its way through the area. These heavy downpours could produce flooding issues, especially in low-lying areas; thus, a flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service until 4:00 AM EST on February 18. Rain accumulations between 0.75″-1″ are possible. Winds will also be very gusty tonight, with gusts up to 40 mph a possibility. Due to these high wind gusts, a wind advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service until 11:00 PM EST (has been extended to 1:00 AM on February 18) tonight. Much colder air will move in behind the front, dropping temperatures into the mid 30s for Friday’s high. This dramatic drop in temperatures may result in rain transitioning to snow during the early morning hours on Friday, but no snow accumulation is expected. High pressure will then build on Friday through early next week, although a clipper system will briefly pass through the area on Saturday, creating an uptick in winds. Much cooler temperatures will persist through the first part of the weekend until a warming trend begins on Sunday. Unsettled weather will return early next week as another low pressure system makes its way into our region.
