Forecast Discussion

The NWS in Charleston, West Virgia has issued a Hazordous Weather Outlook for Athens, Ohio. This is due to the severe thunderstorm watch that is in effect until 9:00pm tonight before the showers and storms move out with a slight chance for some overnight. The low-pressure system will move off to the east bringing a break in the rain during the day on Friday under partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper-80s. However, the break won’t last long as another system is moving in during the day Saturday bringing the chances for showers and thunderstorms with a cold front moving through Sunday morning. This is due to a cut-off low-pressure system located in the upper levels causing a troughing pattern in the eastern half of the United States. This will bring chances for showers and thunderstorms off and on with drier conditions heading into Tuesday.
