Hazardous Weather Outlook

A cold front will move through the area tonight bringing chances for some showers and thunderstorms. Instability values up to 2000 J/kg, steep lapse rates, and dewpoint temperatures in the upper-60s, the ingredients are there for storms to be severe. The SPC has placed Athens, Ohio under a slight risk for severe weather with the main threats being large hail and damaging wind gusts. This will likely occur in the squall line that forms along the cold front and will move through the area around midnight to 1am tonight. Winds will be due southerly and turn to northerly once the cold front moves through. Behind the system, there will be some subsidence which promotes more calm conditions for the remainder of the weekend.

The rest of the weekend temperatures will be in the low to mid-80s under mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions with northwesterly flow. Lows will be in the upper-50s to low-60s. Heading into the work week, a ridge will build and makes its way east bringing a high-pressure system along with it. This will allow mostly sunny and calm conditions with temperatures climbing into the upper-80s to near 90.
