Forecast Discussion
A potent low pressure system will move through the region tomorrow, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and potentially some thunderstorms. For this reason the NWS office in Charleston, WV has issued a Flood Watch and Wind Advisory for our area beginning at 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., respectively.
Rain will begin early tomorrow morning as a warm front impacts us and continue through the early afternoon. A brief break from the rain is possible in the mid-late afternoon before the system’s cold front hits Athens with a second round of rain and potentially some thunderstorms lasting through Friday evening. Winds throughout the day will be gusty, up above 40 mph at times. Be careful driving as heavy rain and localized flooding will make roads slick and conditions hazardous.
The system moves out of the region by late Friday night, with the wind dying down significantly and clouds decreasing throughout Saturday and setting Athens up for a sunny weekend and start of next week.
