Forecast Discussion

The remnants of hurricane Nicole will begin to make their way into our region early Friday morning, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected. Rainfall accumulations between 2-3 inches are possible; however, due to recent dry conditions, flash flooding should not be a concern. In addition to the remnants, a strong low pressure system and associated cold front will approach from the west, and the moisture from both systems will deepen a trough pattern, causing this bulk of precipitation to occur. Behind these two disturbances will be much cooler air due to cold air advection and northwest flow, dropping daytime temperatures from the 70s to 40s, so make sure to get those warm jackets out of the closet! High pressure will then be the dominant feature, providing sunny skies for Sunday into early next week. However, the next chance for precipitation will arise by mid week, with another system approaching from the south.
