Forecast Discussion
A system will move to our west Wednesday evening and into the overnight. Temperatures throughout the day will be well above freezing, so the snow currently on the ground will begin to melt, aided by the rain that will move in by early evening. A cold front will pass into the overnight, causing a quick dip in temperatures, which will cause the rain to transition to snow fairly quickly. This will also create a flash freeze threat as most surfaces will be wet from the melting snow and rain, so roads Thursday morning will likely be slick and make for a difficult morning commute. The Athens area could see an inch or two of snow accumulation from this system, with higher accumulations to our south. High pressure regains control by Friday, which will make for a dry, but chilly, weekend and start to the work week.
