The National Weather Service out of Charleston, WV issued an Excessive Heat Watch from July 19th 12:00 PM until July 20th, 8:00 PM.
Radar is still picking up showers and thunderstorms scattered across the area as of 8pm this evening. Rain chances will decrease as the night progresses and show an end to the rain around midnight. Moisture is still lingering in the lower levels with calmer winds, which will help maintain cloud cover and the chance for patchy fog for overnight and early on Thursday. Clouds should break for the afternoon on Thursday and allow for dry and partly sunny conditions. Upper level ridging builds not only across our area, but for the southern and southeastern U.S. High pressure and more southwesterly flow will generate hot temperatures and humid conditions for Friday and into the weekend. The highs will soar into the mid-90s with dew points nearing the mid-70s. This setup can create dangerous heat indices that will potentially stretch the “feels like” into the triple digits and may pose health risks to long outside exposure. A break in the pattern as showers and thunderstorms return to the region for Sunday and into Monday with the next upper-level disturbance.
