Forecast Discussion
A very active weather pattern is in store for this week. First, an upper-level trough will slowly progress eastward and dig down into the Ohio Valley. This is associated with a fast moving low-pressure system over the Rockies that will approach our region Tuesday afternoon. Clouds will increase overnight as this system approaches. This will bring a slight chance of scattered snow showers Tuesday morning with snow chances increasing in the afternoon. Due to this, a Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued by the NWS with snow accumulations between a half inch to an inch. This can create slick spots on the road during the afternoon and evening commute, so exercise caution while driving. It is also advised to dress warm and bundle up as winds can gusts up to 20mph tomorrow bringing wind chills near zero degrees or below zero. Once this system exits the region, an upper-level ridge and high-pressure will move in at the surface as winds transition to the northwest. This will act to dig cold air into the region with overnight lows dipping to the single digits. Wind chills Wednesday morning can also dip below zero, so make sure to bundle up for any morning travel and activities.
On Thursday, high-pressure will move out of the region leading to another low-pressure system from the north in Canada allowing clouds to increase and a chance for light scattered snow showers. A dusting of up to half an inch is possible, which can create some slick spots on roads. Upper-level ridging on Friday will lead to sinking motion and some clouds and sun. However, another low-pressure system will arrive Saturday with a warm front allowing high temperatures to climb into the low to mid-40s with rain likely throughout the day. Once the cold front moves through Saturday evening, it is possible for rain to transition to snow, but more on this as the day gets closer.
