Forecast Discussion
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a 2 out of 5 Slight Risk of severe weather today valid from 8am this morning to 8am Sunday morning.
Our recent stretch of beautiful spring weather has been a welcomed sight as our campus has been bustling with outdoor recreation and no winter clothing as far as the eye can see. Your Saturday will be no different as highs today will rise back to the low to mid 80’s under partly cloudy skies to start. As the day progresses, winds will pick up from the Southwest gusting to 15-20 mph at times with clouds increasing by the evening time frame. Due to a midwestern storm system closely passing by, a cold front is slated to sweep through during the late evening and overnight hours. Because we will have the polar jet stream flowing overhead, there is an isolated chance of severe weather later today. Gusty winds will be the main threat. As the front passes, our night time lows will drop to the low 50’s to high 40’s. Sunday will start cloudy and hazy as much cooler air will be in place throughout the day. Highs in the low to mid 50’s with a stiff northwesterly breeze is anticipated. By evening those stubborn clouds should mostly clear out allowing the temperatures to crash into the 30’s.
The extended outlook is more of the same as the highs and lows will stay on the more seasonal side as we will stay in a polar influenced air mass. Tuesday looks to be the worst of it with high’s in the mid 40’s and lows falling much below freezing. Gardeners will need to protect sensitive plants! Wednesday we start to come back to the spring of things as our highs will be back into the 60’s. In-fact, extended weather modeling is hinting at us staying seasonably warm for the foreseeable future! We just need to get through Tuesday’s hiccup! Check back for updates.
