Forecast Discussion

There may be some fog during the morning commute today, but then the rest of the day features sunny conditions. Today starts a warming trend lasting through much of this week. The region will start in the lower 90s today, and by midweek temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s with heat indices at or above 100 degrees. This is due to a heat dome and humid air that has settled over much of the Midwest and Ohio Valley. Stay tuned for updates as the week goes on in case of a heat advisory of excessive heat warning being issued. Throughout the week, precautions need to be taken to stay safe in this extreme heat. Those working or spending an extended amount of time outside should wear light colored loose-fitting clothing and take frequent breaks in a cool location and drink plenty of water. Young children, the elderly, pregnant individuals, and those with certain medical conditions or those taking medications that make them intolerant to the heat are at most risk this week of heat-related illness and should take special caution to stay cool and hydrated. Check on neighbors and friends, especially those without A/C, and stay safe and cool Athens!
