Forecast Discussion

Another round of winter weather is headed for Athens. Today will be a breezy day with a high in the low 40s before a strong clipper storm makes its way into the area. This low pressure system will bring us rain ahead of a cold front tonight, but once the front comes through, that rain will transition to snow. Additionally, with the combination of gusty winds and cold air temperatures, wind chills will plunge into the single digits, so it will feel very frigid Wednesday night. Any lingering snow showers should pass by Thursday afternoon. Light snow accumulations can be expected with this storm (around 1 to 2 inches at most), and therefore road travel could be hazardous Thursday morning. Blustery conditions continue into Thursday with a high only near 30 degrees. Afterwards, high pressure settles in for most of the weekend as highs rebound back to almost 50 degrees by Sunday before another system brings us more rain late Sunday night.
