The National Weather Service in Charleston, WV has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 am tonight until 10 am Saturday.

A low pressure system will bring us some snow showers tonight during the overnight hours into tomorrow. Accumulations of 1-3 inches are expected, so roads will likely be slippery. Make sure to exercise caution if you are traveling tomorrow. Additionally, it will also be breezy throughout all of Friday with wind gusts up to 25 mph possible. This will make it feel significantly colder than the actual air temperature. In fact, the low on Friday night will be around 19 degrees, but the breezy conditions will make it feel around 10 degrees colder. Blustery and cold conditions continue into Saturday, where high pressure sets in for a brief period, which will bring Athens a bit of sunshine.

Starting around midday Sunday, more significant wintery weather will make its way into the area, with any leftover precipitation lasting until Monday overnight at the latest. This is only an approximate timeframe, and more will become clear about this system as we get closer to its arrival, including total accumulations and impacts. Much of the uncertainty revolves around the system’s exact track, as this could dictate whether Athens receives snow, sleet, or freezing rain. Nonetheless, remain weather aware about this system over the coming days.
